Sabinus Questions Nigerians’ Silence on Governance, Calls for Unity

Nigerian comedian and skit maker Sabinus has questioned the apparent lack of unity among citizens in demanding accountability from those in positions of authority.

In a social media post on Tuesday, the entertainer expressed frustration over the criticism Nigerians face when they speak up about governance and the country’s challenges.

He noted that citizens who call for better leadership are often told to focus on their personal affairs, while those who choose to stay out of public discussions are also subjected to insults.

Sabinus asked why Nigerians had yet to come together to demand what they believe they are entitled to from their leaders.

“A lot is going on in this country and we’re just keeping quiet. You demand for good governance, they tell you to mind your business,” he wrote.

“You try to mind your business, they still insult you. When are we going to come as one and demand for what we’re being owed?”

His comments have drawn attention to questions surrounding civic participation, public accountability and citizens’ ability to collectively demand better governance.

The comedian’s post adds to ongoing public conversations about the role Nigerians can play in holding government officials accountable and protecting their rights.
