Rihanna Faults US Voter Apathy Over Trump’s Return to the White House

Singer Rihanna has blamed Americans who abstained from voting for contributing to President Donald Trump’s return to the White House, arguing that electoral apathy also played a role in the 2024 election outcome.
The singer shared her position in response to a viral Instagram clip featuring former MSNBC host Joy Reid and journalist Charles M. Blow discussing the political and economic consequences of Trump’s second term.
During the conversation, Reid suggested that Americans who voted Trump back into office should accept responsibility for the financial controversies surrounding his administration.
Reacting to the discussion, Rihanna argued that people who did not participate in the election should also be held accountable for the outcome and the economic difficulties she associated with the administration.
“Believe it or not, those who didn’t vote at all also did this!” she wrote.
Trump defeated Harris in 2024 election
Trump secured a second presidential term in November 2024, defeating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris after losing his re-election bid to Joe Biden in 2020.
Rihanna’s comments shift attention to the role of non-voters in determining election outcomes, alongside those who actively support candidates at the ballot box.
Although the singer expressed her views on the American political climate, she is not a US citizen and was therefore ineligible to vote in the country’s presidential election.
Her remarks have added a celebrity voice to the debate over voter participation and the extent to which citizens who abstain from elections should be held responsible for their political consequences.
