President Bola Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria this week after extending his working vacation in Europe, with the Presidency saying he remains in good health and has continued to attend to official matters while abroad.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu has remained engaged with government business despite his absence from Abuja.
The President left Nigeria on August 30 for London before proceeding to Paris, where he held meetings with French officials and investors.
According to the Presidency, Tinubu’s engagements in France included discussions around investment opportunities, while a memorandum involving the Ogun State Government and DP World on a proposed deep-sea port at Ogun Waterside was also concluded during his stay.
Tinubu’s absence from the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York has generated public and political discussion, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima representing Nigeria at the gathering.
The Presidency has maintained that Tinubu delegated the assignment while continuing to direct affairs from abroad.
The President’s return date was initially expected to fall over the weekend, but his travel plans were subsequently adjusted. Current reports indicate that he is now expected back in Nigeria on Tuesday, September 29.
Tinubu is expected to participate in activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary after his return, including events in Lagos.
