The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four individuals in connection with a massive visa scam involving the fraudulent collection of ₦500 million.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
According to Hundeyin, the suspects, aged between 23 and 36, were initially reported to the Ago Okota Police Division before the case was transferred to the SCID for further investigation.
Preliminary findings revealed that the suspects were staff members of an educational consultancy firm based in Ago Okota. They allegedly defrauded over 100 victims by falsely promising to secure Canadian and Australian work visas.
“Further investigations have uncovered the involvement of additional accomplices. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend all parties connected to the fraud and ensure they face justice,” Hundeyin added.
He also quoted the state Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, as urging the public to thoroughly verify the legitimacy of travel and recruitment agencies before engaging in any visa-related transactions.
The police spokesperson reassured the public of the command’s commitment to protecting residents from fraudsters and other criminal elements.
