Plateau: Mutfwang addresses citizens, appeals to protesters

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has urged the #EndBadGoverance demonstrators in the state to call off their protests.

He said that reliable sources had exposed the invitation to disturb the calm in the state by thugs from neighboring states.

In a Tuesday morning statewide broadcast to the people, the governor emphasized that those who profit from violence are not pleased with the tranquility the state is experiencing and are trying to create havoc by infiltrating the nonviolent protest.

He gave assurances about the measures his administration is taking to lessen hardship, expressed his desire to have a conversation with young group leaders, and praised the roles played by stakeholders in stopping the actions of the thugs who attacked and looted stores and harmed defenseless people.

The governor said, “To the admiration of other Nigerians and even the international community, you have demonstrated that the glorious days of the beautiful and peaceful Plateau are back… since the commencement of your constitutionally guaranteed right of protest.”

He said that in order to combat the planned diversion from poverty caused by insurgency, banditry, and insecurity, the state administration had made technological investments.

On the protest, he said, “I have heard you clearly, and we are in this together. I, therefore, appeal to you to stay further protests so we can dialogue with your leaders to add value to our thinking and plans for poverty alleviation since we do not possess a monopoly of wisdom. As soon as the protests are over, we shall meet with the leaders of the youth groups across the state for further dialogue.”
