Phyna Warns Nigeria’s Streaming Boom Could Collapse Over Clout-Chasing

Former reality TV star and streamer Phyna has raised concerns about the future of Nigeria’s growing streaming industry, predicting that the sector could collapse if creators continue to prioritise virality over substance.
Phyna made the comment during a recent livestream with Jeffrey Benson, where she criticised what she described as the growing culture of “clip farming” among Nigerian streamers.
According to her, some creators are relying heavily on outrageous stunts, controversy and fabricated claims to generate viral clips and attract viewers rather than developing strong niches or producing content with lasting impact.
She argued that this trend could ultimately undermine the growth of the streaming industry if it becomes the dominant model for attracting audiences.
Phyna also reflected on her early days as a streamer, admitting that she was initially willing to be “crazy” with her content but later toned down her approach.
She explained that, as a woman, she found it difficult to sustain the level of energy and antics she believed some of her male counterparts were bringing to the space.
“Streaming in Nigeria will soon collapse because Nigerians push streamers that clip farm, go crazy and tell lies just to entertain streams,” she said.
Phyna urged fellow creators to focus on producing meaningful content rather than constantly chasing clout and viral moments.
Her comments come amid the rapid growth of livestreaming and digital content creation in Nigeria, with an increasing number of entertainers and young creators turning to online platforms to build audiences and generate income.
