Osun Local Government Control Dispute Resurfaces After Adeleke’s Re-Election

A fresh attempt to take control of a local government secretariat has renewed the dispute over Osun State’s 30 councils, days after Governor Ademola Adeleke secured a second term.

Adewale Adeyinka, the chairman of Odo Otin Local Government, on Monday attempted to resume at the council secretariat after being denied access to the office for more than a year.

Adeyinka was among officials elected during the February 2025 local government elections conducted by the Adeleke administration. The election produced PDP chairmen and councillors across the state.

The development followed Adeleke’s move from the PDP to the Accord Party, with the elected council officials and his supporters also joining the new party.

The local government crisis began with the dissolution of council officials elected under former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s administration and has since triggered prolonged legal battles between the affected APC officials and the state government.

The dispute has also resulted in the closure of council secretariats and restricted access to local government allocations, leaving local administration in the state largely disrupted.
