In a new development, former Imo State Governor and Senator Rochas Okorocha has been arrested and released on bail by the Nigeria Police Force over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
Okorocha was reportedly arrested on Monday night at the REIZ Continental Hotel in central Abuja and released after about an hour of interrogation.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu, confirmed the arrest and subsequent release to journalists, disclosing that the former governor had been directed to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning.
The development comes amid an ongoing police investigation into the allegations, following reports that Okorocha had failed to honour previous invitations from investigators.
He was initially invited to the Force Headquarters on September 2, but the appointment was rescheduled to September 8 at the request of his lawyers.
However, Okorocha reportedly failed to attend the rescheduled meeting, a development that preceded the latest police action.
Investigations into the allegations are ongoing, with the former governor expected to return to the Force Headquarters as directed.
