The remains of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have arrived in Ilaro, Ogun State, ahead of his burial.
Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, after a battle with stage-four cancer.
His body was brought to his hometown on Monday as preparations began for his final rites.
According to the burial arrangements announced by veteran actor Jide Kosoko, a lying-in-state ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Pavilion in Ilaro.
The Ilaro Muslim Community also announced that burial prayers would take place at 10 a.m. at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground.
Ogogo will be laid to rest according to Islamic rites.
His death brought an end to a career that spanned more than four decades. During that period, he featured in more than 300 films and became one of the most recognisable figures in Yoruba-language cinema.
The actor’s death has continued to draw tributes from colleagues, political figures and admirers across Nigeria, many of whom have highlighted his contribution to the growth and preservation of Yoruba culture through film.
As his remains return to Ilaro, the community is set to receive the actor for the final time before his burial.
