Oborevwori calls for intelligence-led approach to tackle insecurity

Calls for a more proactive approach to Nigeria’s security challenges are growing, with Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori urging security agencies to prioritise intelligence, prevention and early intervention.

Oborevwori made the call on Monday in Asaba when participants of the Advanced Intelligence Officers’ Course 16/2026 from the Defence Intelligence College, Abuja, paid him a courtesy visit.

Represented by his Deputy, Monday Onyeme, the governor said intelligence must be translated into timely decisions and concrete action to prevent threats and protect lives and property.

He also stressed the need for stronger cooperation among security agencies, governments and communities to confront emerging threats.

Oborevwori cited Delta’s Operation Delta Sweep and grassroots intelligence initiatives as examples of efforts aimed at preventing crime and improving security coordination.

He urged intelligence officers to use the knowledge gained from their training to strengthen national resilience and multi-agency cooperation.

Earlier, the course team leader, Commodore Usman Bugaje, said Delta was selected for the study tour because of its strategic economic importance and the security challenges linked to its oil and gas activities.
