NSCDC Mining Marshals Intensify Crackdown on Illegal Mining, Warn Operators

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, says its Mining Marshals have stepped up operations against illegal mining and other activities threatening the nation’s economic resources.

The Commander of the Mining Marshals, ACC Attah John Onoja, said the enforcement operations would be sustained across the country, stressing that the Corps would not limit its activities to any particular location or follow a fixed operational sequence.

Onoja reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to ensuring that mining activities in Nigeria are carried out in accordance with existing laws and regulatory standards.

He disclosed that the latest enforcement exercise in Nasarawa State was conducted in collaboration with the Federal Mines Officer and the state’s mining regulatory team to monitor compliance with mining laws, operational procedures and safety requirements.

According to him, the renewed crackdown aligns with the directives of the NSCDC Commandant-General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, and the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, to tackle illegal mining and prevent revenue losses in the solid minerals sector.

The Mining Marshals Commander warned that operators must obtain valid mining licences and meet all required regulatory and operational standards before commencing activities, adding that the Corps would not tolerate violations of the law.
