NPFL Lands $7.5m EuroMatch Deal as Clubs Set to Receive 60% Share

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has secured a major commercial breakthrough after unveiling a three-year title sponsorship agreement worth $7.5 million with EuroMatch, bringing an end to the league’s lengthy wait for a conventional title sponsor.

The deal, announced in Abuja on Wednesday ahead of the 2026/27 season, is valued at $2.5 million per season. Under the agreement, 60 per cent of the sponsorship proceeds will go directly to the league’s 20 participating clubs.

NPFL Chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye said the arrangement was deliberately structured to ensure that the financial growth of the league translates into tangible improvements for players, particularly in wages and welfare.

With 60 per cent of the annual sponsorship package allocated to clubs, the participating teams will collectively receive $1.5 million each season from the deal. The funds are expected to provide clubs with additional resources to improve players’ earnings and working conditions.

The agreement represents one of the biggest commercial developments in the NPFL in recent years and ends an almost decade-long search for a conventional title sponsor. The league’s previous major title sponsorship arrangement was with telecommunications giant Globacom, which ended in 2016.

Elegbeleye has also stressed that the league’s commercial strategy must place footballers at its centre. Rather than administrators dominating the spotlight, he wants the players and the competition itself to become the primary faces of the NPFL.

The new partnership comes as the league continues a broader reform programme focused on strengthening club finances, improving player welfare, expanding broadcasting and digital exposure, and making the NPFL more attractive to investors and football audiences.

Former Sports Minister and Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, described the agreement as evidence that efforts to treat sports as a business are beginning to generate meaningful investment. He said the NPFL’s reforms, alongside the involvement of clubs and other stakeholders, had helped create an environment capable of attracting major commercial partners.

EuroMatch Group Chairman Sadi Semih also expressed confidence in the partnership, describing it as a strategic investment in Nigerian football and an opportunity to increase the league’s international visibility. The company is a Poland-based investment group focused on technology ventures within the regulated gaming industry.

The sponsorship comes at an important moment for the NPFL, with the 2026/27 season set to begin amid further efforts to increase the financial rewards available to clubs. The National Sports Commission has announced that the league champions are expected to receive a record ₦1 billion prize for the new campaign.

For clubs and players, however, the real test of the EuroMatch partnership will be how effectively the additional revenue is translated into better salaries, improved facilities and stronger welfare standards.

If properly implemented, the deal could mark a significant step in the NPFL’s attempt to transform its commercial fortunes and build a more sustainable domestic football industry. It also provides the league with an opportunity to turn increased investment into better football, stronger clubs and greater visibility for Nigerian players.
