The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), Dr. Adesegun Akin-Olugbade, has emphasised the importance of staff training and professional development in achieving the organisation’s objectives and strengthening Nigeria’s electricity system.
Akin-Olugbade said equipping employees with the requisite skills and knowledge was critical to improving operational efficiency, enhancing professional competence and ensuring the effective management of the nation’s electricity system.
He stated this while addressing staff participating in a training programme at NISO headquarters in Abuja, where he reaffirmed the board’s commitment to providing an enabling work environment that promotes productivity and professional growth.
The NISO board chairman also encouraged employees to communicate their concerns directly to him, assuring them of the organisation’s commitment to addressing issues that could affect their welfare and performance.
He stressed that investing in human capital development remained essential to building a competent workforce capable of delivering on NISO’s mandate.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NISO, Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed, disclosed that the ongoing programme was the sixth batch of the organisation’s System Operators training.
Mohammed explained that NISO’s capacity-building initiatives were designed to accommodate all categories of staff, with the objective of strengthening workforce capacity, boosting morale and improving professional competence across the organisation.
He noted that continuous training and development were necessary to ensure that employees acquired the technical expertise and operational knowledge required to meet the demands of Nigeria’s evolving electricity industry.
The programme forms part of NISO’s broader efforts to develop a skilled and efficient workforce capable of supporting the reliable and effective operation of the national electricity system.
Also speaking, the lead facilitator, Mr. Rotimi Amos of Szotyola Energy, commended the board and management of NISO for prioritising staff training and promoting knowledge transfer within the organisation.
Amos urged the organisation to sustain the initiative, noting that continuous professional development would help employees improve their capabilities and contribute more effectively to institutional growth.
He underscored the importance of maintaining a strong training culture to ensure that staff remain equipped to respond to emerging challenges in the electricity sector.
The emphasis on staff development reflects NISO’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity and building the technical expertise required to support improvements in Nigeria’s electricity system.
