Nigeria’s Armed Forces Targeting Criminal Networks, Defence Minister, Musa Warns

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd), has confirmed that President Bola Tinubu has empowered the armed forces to confront all individuals and groups undermining national security, including their collaborators.

General Musa issued the warning on Saturday while serving as Special Guest of Honour at the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day 2026 Golf Tournament, held at the TYB Golf Resort and Country Club within Yar’Adua Barracks.

“I call on all Nigerians to continue supporting the armed forces and security agencies in the pursuit of peace. To those still aiding bandits, criminals, insurgents, and terrorists: stop now. Remember, the friend of a thief is a thief. If you are found among them on the battlefield, you bear the same consequences. Citizens must provide timely information to help us succeed”, Musa said.

Highlighting the significance of the annual event, Musa noted that it honors both serving personnel and fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives in the defense of the nation.

“This day is about remembering and appreciating the sacrifices of our armed forces and the families of those who have passed on. It is also to encourage our personnel that Nigerians value their service. United, we will achieve success”, he added.

The Defence Minister also commended President Tinubu for his unwavering support for the military, noting that consistent backing from the highest office in the country has boosted morale.

“The president has consistently stood with our armed forces, providing support and encouragement. This commitment strengthens our resolve to protect the nation”, he said.

Speaking at the same event, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, reaffirmed that the military is executing a clear directive from the President to restore peace and security across Nigeria.

Oluyede emphasized that security is a collective responsibility, expressing gratitude to Nigerians for their continued support.

“President Tinubu has mandated the armed forces to ensure peace throughout the country. “We call on citizens to report suspicious activities immediately. Timely intelligence saves lives, and the armed forces are always ready to respond.

“Security is everyone’s business. We need Nigerians to support the armed forces to make the country safer. To our personnel, we acknowledge your sacrifices daily, and we are committed to improving your welfare and working conditions”, Oluyede said.

The CDS also reiterated appreciation for the risks undertaken by military personnel, stressing that the government remains committed to ensuring their well-being.
