Nigerian Gov’t Rolls Out FCC Website to Promote Equity, Open Governance

Nigeria is advancing digital governance with the launch of a new online platform for the Federal Character Commission (FCC).

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, who unveiled the platform in Abuja, described it as a key step toward equity, transparency and good governance.

He said the commission remains vital to ensuring fair representation in public institutions and must adapt through technology, data and greater openness.

“The website should serve not just as an online presence, but as a practical governance tool”, he said.

According to him, the platform will provide real-time access to data, guidelines and public inquiries, while supporting transparent reporting and accountability.

Akume also called for data-driven decision-making and stronger citizen engagement, noting that governance must reflect “citizens’ expectations for openness and transparency”.

Also speaking, the wife of the president, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, represented by Laila Jibrin, said the platform would enhance access to information and boost citizen engagement.

“The true value of this website lies in its effective utilisation”, she said.

She added that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on digital transformation and inclusive governance.

Earlier, Executive Chairman of the commission, Hulayat Omidiran, said the platform will improve access to policies, recruitment processes and official updates.

“It provides a unified, accessible platform for the public to engage more effectively with the commission”, she said.

Omidiran described it as part of ongoing reforms to promote digital inclusion and better service delivery.

Also, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, represented by Idris Wase, commended the move.

“Digital platforms like this will enhance transparency, oversight and equitable access to opportunities”, he said.
