Nigerian Army Detains Female Soldier Over Alleged Misconduct

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the detention of Corporal Amina Maidoki, a female soldier, following allegations of theft and conduct inconsistent with military values.

In a statement released by Lt-Col Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the Army emphasized that Maidoki’s detention aligns with the Armed Forces Act and internal military regulations.

“As a professional military institution, the Nigerian Army is guided by extant provisions of the Armed Forces Act (Cap A20 LFN 2004), internal regulations, and the highest standards of military ethics,” the statement read. “Consequently, her temporary detention is in accordance with the lawful procedures stipulated for service personnel.”

The Army assured that the investigation into Maidoki’s conduct is being conducted with utmost regard for her legal and human rights, and she continues to receive appropriate welfare in line with military standards.

The statement also addressed public concerns, denying allegations of unlawful detention or denial of legal representation, and urged the public to disregard such claims.

“All such claims are false and are rendered simply to mislead the public and draw undue sentiments,” the Army stated. “We therefore encourage the general public to disregard such false submissions.”

The Army emphasized its commitment to due process and procedural fairness in disciplinary matters, stating that updates on the investigation would be provided at the appropriate time.

The statement also acknowledged the concerns of Maidoki’s family, assuring that the Army remains open to lawful communication and engagement, provided such interactions align with operational and investigative procedures.

“The Nigerian Army ensures that the rights of all accused are respected irrespective of the persons involved,” the statement concluded. “However, no individual is above the law or exempt from military discipline. Allegations of misconduct must be addressed thoroughly and lawfully to preserve the integrity, cohesion, and effectiveness of the Nigerian Army.”

This development comes amid the Army’s ongoing efforts to uphold discipline and accountability within its ranks, as seen in recent actions against personnel involved in misconduct.
