Nigeria Mourns: Gbajabiamila Joins Shettima to Bring Buhari’s Body Home

In a moving gesture of respect, President Bola Tinubu has directed Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to join Vice President Kashim Shettima on a sombre mission to the United Kingdom. Their task is to escort the body of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, back home following his passing on Friday in London.

President Tinubu took a moment to personally reach out to Mrs. Aishat Buhari, the former President’s widow, earlier today, offering his heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased leader. As a mark of respect, President Tinubu has also decreed that national flags be flown at half-staff.

Former President Buhari left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s history, serving as a twice-elected President from 2015 to 2023 and previously as the military head of state from January 1984 to August 1985. His legacy will undoubtedly be remembered for generations to come.

President Buhari died today in London at about 4.30 pm, following a prolonged illness. The return of the late former President’s body to Nigerian soil will mark the beginning of a period of national reflection and tribute.
