NIGCOMSAT: Calabar To Host July 2025 Regional Space-Tech Hackathon And VSAT Training Programme

The next edition of the Regional Space-Tech Hackathon and VSAT Training Programme in the South-South region has been scheduled from July 21 to July 26, 2025 in Calabar, Cross River State.

The event which is open to startups, local innovators and students across the region, demonstrates the continued nationwide engagement of the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT).

A statement by the head of corporate affairs at NIGCOMSAT, Aisha Bantam, while encouraging interested participants to visit the NIGCOMSAT website to complete their registration, recalled that previous editions held in Yola (Adamawa State) and Dutse (Jigawa State) in February and April 2025 respectively, attracted strong regional participation and underscored the programme’s growing impact.

Bantam noted that the broader vision of the hackathon and training is to harness the potential of Nigeria’s youth, reduce unemployment and scale innovation for national development.

Speaking ahead of the event, NIGCOMSAT managing director/CEO, Jane Egerton-Idehen said the five-day hackathon would provide a platform for participants to identify community needs, develop creative ideas, build prototypes and receive mentorship from industry experts.

This initiative, driven by NIGCOMSAT Ltd, is designed to empower and inspire young Nigerians by uniting university students, local tech innovators and young professionals from across the South-South region.

The programme aims to foster creative solutions to real-world problems using satellite and space-based technologies.

The upcoming South-South edition is being co-hosted by Cross River State and NIGCOMSAT Ltd is designed to inspire and empower young Nigerians and seeks to foster innovative, satellite-driven solutions to real-world challenges while equipping participants with hands-on skills in the tech and communications space.
