As violent demonstrations over living costs and labor conditions trigger widespread public safety concerns across major French cities, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has issued an urgent call for calm to citizens residing in the country.
With French authorities deploying seventy thousand security personnel nationwide following civil clashes, NiDCOM urges Nigerians to maintain peace, exercise restraint, and refrain from joining street protests or engaging security forces.
NiDCOM Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, stressed that diaspora members must act responsibly and protect the nation’s image by fully respecting host-country laws. She cautioned the public against sharing unconfirmed social media reports that could spread panic, advising citizens to rely exclusively on verified safety updates.
The commission has directed diaspora leaders, student organizations, and professional associations across France to active outreach to sustain order within their networks.
Dabiri-Erewa further advised anyone facing security risks or rights violations to seek legal counsel and contact emergency or consular channels for official protection.
