Santos forward Neymar Jr. faces a possible six-match suspension after being referred to Brazil’s Sports Tribunal for allegedly violating the “Vinícius Júnior rule.”
The 34-year-old was sent off during Saturday’s 1-0 league victory over Bahia after covering his mouth while arguing with midfielder Rodrigo Nestor.
Bahia has condemned the alleged verbal abuse directed at Nestor, who described Neymar’s remarks after the match as “highly disrespectful – both toward me and toward the Bahia jersey.”
Neymar, however, accused the midfielder of using “one of the dirtiest tricks in football.”
The Brazilian forward is scheduled to appear before the tribunal on Wednesday.
