President Bola Tinubu has ordered security agencies to intensify efforts to track down and arrest the gunmen who killed Islamic preacher Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka and his friend, Adamu Abubakar, in Katsina State.
The victims were reportedly shot dead in a drive-by attack in Dutsin-Ma on Monday evening, adding to growing security concerns across Nigeria’s North-West.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu condemned the killings, describing them as an attack on the sanctity of human life and the values of peace.
The President expressed grief over the incident and extended his condolences to the victims’ families, the cleric’s followers, and the government and people of Katsina State.
He directed the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to reinforce ongoing efforts by the Katsina State Police Command to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Tinubu also prayed for the repose of the deceased and comfort for their grieving families.
The killings come amid persistent insecurity in Katsina and other parts of the North-West, where armed groups continue to carry out deadly attacks and kidnappings.
No information was provided in the statement on possible arrests or further details surrounding the shooting.
