The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Nentawe Yilwatda, has officially emerged as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following his nomination and election by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on Thursday.
His nomination was put forward by the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Governor Hope Uzodimma, and seconded by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen. NEC members at the meeting in Abuja adopted the motion through a voice vote, confirming Yilwatda’s leadership.
At 56, Yilwatda steps into the role at a critical time for the ruling party, which is working to consolidate its influence across the country and manage internal alignments following recent high-profile defections. His election comes in the wake of former chairman Abdullahi Ganduje’s resignation in June, citing personal reasons.
Party insiders believe Yilwatda’s experience in governance and technocratic background will be vital in steering the APC toward greater cohesion ahead of the 2027 elections.
