National grid stabilised after transmission network disruption -NISO

The system operator says Monday’s incident affected only part of the grid, as electricity generation fell from 3,840MW to 476.70MW within six hours…….

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has announced the restoration of normal operations on the national grid following multiple trippings on the 330-kilovolt transmission network that disrupted the power system on Monday.

In a statement, the operator said the incident occurred at about 12:40 p.m., prompting immediate intervention to stabilise the system and restore normal operations.

“Following the incident, NISO, working with TCN, immediately implemented appropriate corrective measures to stabilise the power system and restore normal operations,” the statement said.

NISO clarified that the disruption was limited to a section of the national grid, dismissing reports suggesting that the incident had affected the entire electricity network.

“NISO wishes to clarify that the incident affected only a section of the grid, contrary to unverified reports and claims currently circulating in the media,” the operator said.

It urged members of the public to rely on its official communication channels for accurate updates on the status of the national grid.

The incident came amid a sharp decline in electricity generation on Monday. Data published on NISO’s portal showed that generation fell from 3,840 megawatts at 7 a.m. to 476.70MW by 1 p.m., highlighting the scale of the disruption during the period.
