Security forces in Borno have intercepted a suspected foreign national allegedly carrying drugs and other prohibited items to terrorist hideouts around the Lake Chad Islands.
The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Rachael Samuel, a Chadian national from Chari-Baguirmi Province, was arrested on July 9 while allegedly transporting the consignment.
According to the spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, preliminary findings indicate that the items were being moved to areas linked to terrorist activities.
Items recovered from the suspect include seven compressed bundles of suspected cannabis weighing about 30 kilogrammes, two 10-litre containers of hydromercuric chloride, a carton of dry gin, herbal alcoholic beverages, cash, a mobile phone and ATM cards.
Goni said the suspect remains in military custody, while the recovered exhibits have been secured for further investigation and prosecution.
He added that intelligence reports show terrorist groups often rely on illicit substances to influence fighters and support violent operations.
The military said the interception has disrupted another supply channel used by terrorists and reaffirmed its commitment to cutting off logistics networks that sustain insurgent activities.
