Meta Reportedly Eyes Rival AI Models to Power Its Apps

Meta is reportedly exploring the use of competing AI models from Google and OpenAI to boost AI features across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
According to reports, Meta executives have discussed integrating Google’s Gemini into Meta AI and using OpenAI’s systems in various products as a temporary measure while the company continues work on its next-generation Llama models.
The company has already experimented with third-party models internally, for example, employees have had access to Anthropic models for tasks such as coding assistance and Meta describes its strategy as an “all-of-the-above” approach that mixes in-house development, partnerships and open sourcing.
If pursued, licensing or routing requests to rival models could help Meta accelerate new features and improve performance while it builds its own next-gen systems, but it would also raise practical questions about data governance, interoperability and competitive dynamics across the AI ecosystem.
