France and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe remains confident of winning the Ballon d’Or after a prolific individual campaign.
The 27-year-old finished as the leading scorer at the 2026 World Cup, while also topping the scoring charts in La Liga and the Champions League.
Despite his impressive numbers, Mbappe ended the season without a major trophy. France exited the World Cup at the semi-final stage, while Real Madrid finished second in La Liga and were eliminated by Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals.
“They won’t announce a team in the envelope; they will announce a player,” Mbappe told RFI radio station.
“The ability to perform individually and produce eye-catching moments, that’s what stands out to people for an award like this.
“I was top scorer in all the biggest competitions, and I think that this could be a good year for me, and I really feel it.”
Mbappe scored 25 league goals, 15 in the Champions League and 10 at the World Cup, taking his total World Cup tally to 22 and making him the tournament’s all-time leading scorer.
However, he faces strong competition, including 2025 Ballon d’Or winner Rodrigo Hernandez, who captained Spain to the 2026 World Cup title.
Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres also won La Liga and the World Cup with Spain, while Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia lifted the Champions League and French Ligue 1 titles. Harry Kane, meanwhile, won the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.
