The legal battle over the long-delayed Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project is not over, despite a recent arbitration decision involving the Federal Government.
Promoter of Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited, Leno Adesanya, says the company’s legal team is reviewing the decision of the International Arbitration Tribunal under the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris.
He says Sunrise will consider all lawful options after its lawyers complete their assessment of the tribunal’s award.
“The battle is not over. Our lawyers are currently reviewing the arbitration decision and will advise us on the appropriate next steps”, Adesanya said.
He added that the company respects the arbitration process and the tribunal’s decision but is carefully studying the findings, reasoning and implications of the award.
Adesanya said it would be premature to comment further until the legal review is concluded, while reaffirming Sunrise’s commitment to protecting its rights and interests in the Mambilla project.
He also expressed hope that the longstanding dispute would eventually be resolved in a way that protects all parties and supports the development of the project for Nigeria’s power sector.
