“Life Abroad Isn’t Rosy” – Tacha Opens Up About Struggles of Nigerians in the UK

Reality TV star and influencer Tacha Akide has stirred conversation online after candidly addressing the financial challenges faced by many Nigerians living in the United Kingdom.

In a recent video, the former Big Brother Naija housemate, now residing in the UK, challenged the widely held perception that life abroad guarantees financial success. According to Tacha, many Nigerians in the UK are far from financially secure and, in some cases, are living less comfortably than those back home.

“People in Nigeria often think everyone here is rich, but that’s far from reality. Some of the most financially strained individuals I’ve encountered are Nigerians living in the UK,” she said.

She highlighted the high cost of living as a major factor contributing to these struggles. “Trust me, life here isn’t rosy. You can easily spend ₦300,000 on a taxi in one day or ₦1 million on a car within a week—unless you rely solely on public transport. It’s expensive.”

Tacha urged Nigerians considering relocation to have a realistic perspective. “If you want to move abroad, go ahead. But don’t do it with the mindset that it’s all glamorous. Many people in Nigeria are actually living more comfortably than those here.”

Her remarks have ignited widespread debate on social media, prompting many users to reflect on the harsh economic realities of living abroad compared to the expectations often held back home.
