The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has constituted reconciliation committees across senatorial districts to address internal disputes following its recently concluded local government primary elections.
The move comes as part of a broader effort to unify aggrieved party members and rebuild confidence ahead of the upcoming local government polls.
In a statement released Tuesday, APC spokesperson Mogaji Oladejo said the initiative is aimed at resolving tensions and strengthening the party’s cohesion.
“After reviewing the outcomes and appeals from the primary elections, the APC is activating its internal conflict resolution mechanism to ensure unity going into the elections,” the statement noted.
Party leaders have given the committees a two-week mandate to address the grievances and consolidate support around the APC’s candidates.
The primaries, which selected candidates for local council positions across Lagos, triggered protests and multiple petitions, with aspirants and supporters questioning the transparency of the process.
To manage the situation effectively, the reconciliation effort has been decentralized by senatorial district:
Lagos East: Headed by Dr. Lateef Ibirogba, with Saheed Afonja, Sumbo Onitiri, and Sade Bakare serving as members.
Lagos Central: Led by former Deputy Governor Chief (Mrs) Sarah Sosan. Other members include Funso Ologunde, Adedoyin Banjo, and Adigun Olalekan.
Lagos West is split into two zones:
Lagos West 1: Chaired by Otunba Bode Oyedele, with Chief Jide Damazio, Alhaji Aleshinloye, and Comfort Olalere.
Lagos West 2: Led by Alhaji Mutiu Are, joined by Hon. Jumoke Okoya, Otunba Kehinde Adeniyi, and Adeola Rashidat.
The APC says it remains committed to fair representation and unity within its ranks as it prepares to face other parties in the local government elections.
