Labour Party: LPPMC Lauds Supreme Court and INEC for Upholding Democratic Values

Liberal Progressive and Patriotic Members Congress (LPPMC) hails Supreme Court ruling on Labour Party leadership, commends INEC for reaffirming its impartial stance.

The Liberal Progressive and Patriotic Members Congress (LPPMC) has commended the Supreme Court of Nigeria for its recent judgment, which upheld the rule of law and affirmed the legitimacy of the Sen. Nenadi Usman-led Caretaker Committee in the ongoing Labour Party leadership dispute.

In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Dr. Kingsley Okundaye, the LPPMC described the ruling as a victory for democracy and a rejection of the political impunity exhibited by the defunct Julius Abure-led faction.

The group expressed support for the Caretaker Committee and welcomed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) statement on May 8, 2025, which clarified that it had not recognized unauthorized individuals as Labour Party leaders and committed to acting in accordance with the Supreme Court’s judgment.

The LPPMC further condemned attempts by the Abure-led National Working Committee (NWC) to suspend elected officials and urged INEC to expedite its process in formally recognizing the legitimate leadership of the Labour Party, ensuring that democracy is preserved in the country.
