Jose Mourinho sacked by Roma

Mourinho guided Roma to their first European trophy in 2022, won the Europa Conference League, and then to the Europa League final the following season.

Jose Mourinho has been fired by Roma after the club won only one of its previous six Serie A games and was eliminated from the Coppa Italia by local rivals Lazio.

The 60-year-old was named manager in May 2021.

Mourinho’s contract was originally set to expire at the end of the 23/24 season, but it was extended due to the team’s poor performance this season.

The club statement reads: “We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club.

“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club.

“We wish José and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”

Roma has struggled this season and sits ninth in the Serie A table. The 3-1 loss to Milan last Sunday was the team’s third defeat in five league games and Mourinho’s final game in charge of the Italian side.
