Abdulmumeen Jimoh has successfully defended his Division A crown at the 2026 Lekki Scrabble Club Classics in Lagos.
Jimoh, who lifted the title last year, repeated the feat on Sunday to make it consecutive victories at the competition.
His triumph came with the championship trophy and a $1,000 cash reward.
The champion said he remained focused on taking the tournament one game at a time without placing unnecessary expectations on himself.
“I played each game as it came. I didn’t give myself the pressure,” he said.
Jimoh will now shift his attention to preparations for the African Scrabble Championship scheduled for October in Monrovia, Liberia.
“I have to start preparation and make sure I tighten all the loose ends from this tournament,” he added.
He also dedicated the victory to his late elder brother, who first introduced him to the game.
“This win means a lot to me,” Jimoh said.
More than 200 competitors took part across several categories, including the senior Division A and Division B events.
Frank Ishiekwene won Division B, while Abdulsalam Toyyibaht emerged champion in the Under-12 category.
A children’s category was also included as organisers continued to encourage youth participation and development in Scrabble.
The Lekki Scrabble Club Classics remains a notable fixture on Nigeria’s Scrabble calendar, offering players competitive preparation ahead of major domestic and international events.
Jimoh’s latest success provides added momentum as he prepares for the African championship against some of the continent’s leading players.
