Jim Iyke Criticizes Modern Feminism, Calls It a “Distorted Movement” in Viral Interview
Nollywood star sparks debate after labeling contemporary feminism as divisive and out of touch with its original intent

Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has sparked online debate after sharing controversial views on modern feminism, describing the current state of the movement as “distorted” and “borderline criminal.”
In a recent interview on the Echo Room podcast, Iyke acknowledged the early contributions of feminism to addressing gender inequality and patriarchy. However, he argued that today’s version of the movement has drifted far from its original goals.
“I call it a crime, an assault of sorts,” Iyke said. “The original feminist movement was necessary, it tackled imbalance and gave women a voice. But the modern iteration has taken a different turn.”
The actor suggested that the shift may have begun as a marketing strategy, potentially launched by a women’s magazine, to sell more copies by appealing to women who felt marginalized.
“Who were their chief readers? Women. So they devised an ideology that allowed women to challenge the status quo and compete with men in the same space,” he said.
Iyke claimed the campaign grew into a larger cultural movement that now promotes division between genders rather than unity. He criticized the perceived message of superiority over men and said the idea that women don’t need men has been “blown out of proportion.”
“They decided that this whole ideology of ‘we do not need a man, anything a man can do we can do better’… escalated, and blew it out of proportion. Now it has been adopted as a way of living, as a new cultural standard,” he explained.
The actor also pointed to what he sees as double standards in modern feminism, arguing that the movement no longer encourages collaboration but instead fosters unnecessary gender rivalry.
“The double standard is what makes me question the ideology. You can only be in your natural, God-given role. Men stay in theirs, and when you come together, it blends and becomes one. That’s what they are yet to understand,” he added.
His comments have drawn mixed reactions online, with some agreeing with his views on gender roles, while others have criticized his remarks as outdated and dismissive of women’s struggles.
Jim Iyke is no stranger to stirring public discourse. Known for his outspoken nature and successful acting career, the veteran actor’s statements have once again positioned him at the center of a heated cultural conversation.
