Jide Kosoko Reveals 30-Year Battle With Diabetes, Opens Up on Losing Three Wives

Veteran Nigerian actor Jide Kosoko has revealed that he has been living with diabetes since 1996, describing decades of managing the condition as a learning process that has helped him understand his health.

The 72-year-old actor made the disclosure during an interview with actress and host Biola Bayo, saying his experience with the condition has given him considerable knowledge of his body.

“I became diabetic in 1996; I understand my health better than some doctors do,” Kosoko said.

Beyond his health, the actor spoke about personal losses, revealing that he has lost three wives. Among them was the mother of his daughter, Bidemi Kosoko, who died during childbirth.

“I lost my wife during childbirth; that’s Bidemi’s mother. I have lost three wives,” he said.

Kosoko also reflected on his long career in the entertainment industry, tracing his involvement in theatre to childhood. He said he began acting at the age of 10 in 1964 and established his own theatre group in 1972.

“I started theatre at age 10, in 1964, and formed my own group in 1972. I can confidently say that I am one of the pioneers of this industry,” he said.

The veteran actor further offered advice on parenting, urging parents to ensure that their children feel equally valued within the family.

“Treat your children equally; let them know they’re equal in your mind,” he said.

He also discussed the changing role of social media, recalling that people were initially apprehensive when the platforms emerged but have since found ways to use them to their advantage.

However, Kosoko criticised what he considers inappropriate uses of social media, questioning the need for some users to rely on provocative displays and what he described as meaningless talk.

His remarks touched on health, family, parenting and the changes he has witnessed throughout his decades in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
