Iran’s leadership has acknowledged mounting pressure on the country, with President Masoud Pezeshkian describing the ongoing confrontation with the United States as a “full-scale war” and warning of its impact on the economy and citizens’ livelihoods.
Speaking during a meeting with judicial officials in Tehran, Pezeshkian said Iran must recognise the realities of the crisis and prepare for the consequences of continued resistance.
“The reality is that today the Islamic Republic of Iran is engaged in a full-scale war”, he said, adding that Tehran must “accept the natural consequences of this resistance”.
The Iranian president identified the economy as the country’s biggest challenge, saying “the most important battlefield today is the economy and the livelihoods of the people”. He warned that prolonged economic hardship could fuel social dissatisfaction and weaken public support for the government.
Pezeshkian’s comments come as Iran continues to face severe economic pressure, with inflation rising sharply and cost-of-living concerns triggering public anger. Previous protests that began over economic difficulties later expanded into wider anti-government demonstrations.
Iranian authorities blamed the unrest on foreign-backed “terrorist acts” linked to the United States and Israel, while foreign-based rights organisations reported significantly higher casualty figures.
The remarks underline the challenges facing Tehran as it attempts to manage economic pressures while maintaining its stance in a deepening confrontation with Washington.
