Iran Forms Three-Member Interim Leadership Council After Khamenei’s Reported Death

Following the reported death of Ali Khamenei, Iranian state media says a temporary leadership arrangement has been activated to oversee the country during the transition period.

Under the reported plan, a three-member council will carry out the duties of the supreme leader until a successor is selected. The body is said to include President Masoud Pezeshkian, judiciary chief, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, and a representative linked to the Guardian Council.

The arrangement is expected to remain in place until the Assembly of Experts, a group of senior clerics responsible for appointing the supreme leader, selects a permanent replacement. Iranian law requires the Assembly to move quickly in naming a successor.

Authorities have not indicated who may assume the top position, as the country responds to the aftermath of reported large-scale strikes involving the United States and Israel.
