The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has clarified that Nigerians applying for international passports under the ongoing special passport intervention exercise in the United Kingdom will not incur any additional charges.
The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Minister’s Special Adviser, Alao Babatunde.
The intervention exercise was introduced to provide Nigerians in the UK with additional options for processing their passport applications and to address concerns over difficulties experienced by applicants.
Tunji-Ojo explained that applicants are only required to pay the official passport fees of 150 dollars for a five-year validity passport and 230 dollars for a ten-year validity passport, excluding applicable bank charges.
He stressed that neither the Ministry of Interior nor the Nigeria Immigration Service had approved or introduced any additional fees beyond the stated charges.
The Minister also disclosed that consultations are ongoing with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to resolve challenges associated with the passport process and prevent further inconvenience to Nigerians in the UK.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving services for Nigerians both at home and abroad, while urging eligible applicants to take advantage of the seamless, contactless biometric passport application system.
