IBEDC to sue over allegations of sacking 3,000 employees

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has announced its intention to pursue legal action in response to claims that it has terminated 3,000 employees. The company strongly denied these allegations, clarifying that its total workforce is approximately 2,500.

IBEDC views the spread of this misinformation as a deliberate and malicious attempt to tarnish its reputation. In a statement provided to Vanguard by Angela Olanrewaju, the Coordinating Head of Corporate Services at IBEDC, the company emphasized its active involvement in resolving the ongoing third-party outsourcing issue (PIPILL) with the Oyo State branch of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).

Olanrewaju reiterated the company’s commitment to delivering exceptional service and continuously working to enhance value across its operational areas. She also expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Federal Ministry of Labour in facilitating discussions among stakeholders, commending the professionalism shown throughout the mediation process.

She stated, “We acknowledge the professionalism displayed during the mediation process, which is still ongoing. Given the current situation, IBEDC plans to take legal action to address the defamation.”

Olanrewaju urged the Oyo State branch of the NLC to exercise patience and avoid actions that could disrupt operations. She warned that such disruptions would hinder the company’s ability to provide uninterrupted power supply to businesses and residents in Oyo State and surrounding areas.

IBEDC emphasized that, while taking necessary steps to protect its reputation, it remains focused on continuing to provide reliable electricity services to its customers.
