Harry Kane Blames Lack of Intensity and Cohesion for England’s Historic 3-1 Loss to Senegal

England captain Harry Kane has attributed his team’s 3-1 defeat to Senegal in an international friendly on Tuesday to a lack of quality and cohesion, stating that Thomas Tuchel’s side simply weren’t good enough on the day.

The Bayern Munich striker, speaking after the match at City Ground, explained that England struggled both in possession and defensively, with things not clicking throughout the encounter.

Kane opened the scoring in the seventh minute to give England an early lead, but goals from Ismaila Sarr, Habib Diarra, and Cheikh Sabaly turned the tide in favor of the West African side, handing the Three Lions a rare and stinging defeat.

The result marked England’s first-ever loss to an African opponent, adding historical weight to an already disappointing outing.

“Not good enough. We had moments, but with and without the ball things aren’t clicking, we’re not finding the right tempo,” Kane said during his post-match interview.

“We have lost that aggressive nature that we had,” he added.

Kane further emphasized the need for urgent improvement if England hope to mount a serious challenge at the 2026 FIFA World Cup following this latest setback.
