Nigerian financial commentator GehGeh has criticised content creator Mavo over an alleged disclosure concerning singer Shallipopi’s financial situation, questioning the motive behind making the matter public.
GehGeh spoke amid controversy surrounding an alleged private conversation between Mavo and the Benin-born singer.
In his reaction, the financial commentator described Mavo’s alleged disclosure as a betrayal, stressing that someone regarded as a close associate should protect private information rather than expose it publicly.
“Mavo, you’re a bad person. Shallipopi is like a brother to you; what would you gain from letting the streets know he’s broke?” GehGeh said.
He argued that Shallipopi’s alleged financial difficulties should not have become a subject of public discussion, particularly if the information emerged from a private interaction between the two men.
GehGeh, however, urged Shallipopi to forgive Mavo despite the controversy.
“Shallipopi forgive Mavo; he doesn’t know it’s with your music pattern that he blew up,” he said, claiming that Shallipopi had contributed to Mavo’s growth in the entertainment space.
The commentator also used the controversy to warn people, particularly men, to be cautious about whom they confide in about financial difficulties.
According to him, private conversations can become public when shared with people who may not be trusted enough to keep sensitive information confidential.
GehGeh maintained that revealing another person’s financial struggles can have wider consequences, particularly by damaging trust between friends or people who regard themselves as brothers.
The controversy comes amid growing public interest in the personal and financial lives of Nigerian entertainers, with social media often amplifying claims and private disputes involving celebrities.
