Former Lapai LG Chairman Isah Baka Dumps PDP for ADC, Cites Vision Shift

Baka’s defection is the latest in a wave of high-profile exits from the PDP in Niger State ahead of 2027.

A former Chairman of Lapai Local Government Area, Isah Saidu Baka, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and declared allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in what appears to be a strategic realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a resignation letter dated July 22, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairmen of Muye/Egba Ward and Niger State, Baka cited personal and political convictions as the driving force behind his decision to leave the party he has long been associated with.

“After deep reflection and wide consultations with my family, political allies, and constituents, I have resolved to part ways with the PDP,” Baka wrote. “This decision is borne out of my desire to explore new political frontiers that align more closely with my vision and the yearnings of my people.”

Baka served as Chairman of Lapai LGA from 2011 to 2014, and contested for the Agaie/Lapai Federal Constituency seat under the PDP during the 2023 general elections.

Expressing gratitude to the PDP for the platform it offered him throughout his political career, Baka acknowledged the party’s role in his growth and experiences. “I’m thankful for the relationships I’ve cultivated within the PDP. I wish the party well in its future engagements,” he said.

In announcing his move to the ADC, Baka described the party as one that resonates with his renewed political ideals, especially in the area of grassroots development.

His defection adds to a growing list of PDP stalwarts exiting the party in Niger State, signaling a possible shift in the region’s political dynamics as the 2027 election cycle approaches.
