Fireboy DML explains why he keeps his career free of scandals
Afrobeats singer Adedamola Adefolayan, popularly known as Fireboy DML, has attributed his relatively controversy-free career to his decision to keep his private life away from the public.
The Peru hitmaker shared the insight during a recent interaction with fans, where he discussed his personality, public image and approach to his career.
Fireboy said limiting what the public knows about his personal life makes it harder for people to form assumptions about him or create controversies around his actions.
According to the singer, he has deliberately maintained a low profile outside his music, allowing his work to remain the primary focus of public attention.
“They don’t know me enough to misunderstand me. I don’t give them enough personality or insight into my personal life,” he said.
Fireboy also pointed to his decision to stay away from situations and interactions that could generate controversy.
“I don’t have scandals, I don’t relate with other artistes, I don’t sell my music with gimmicks,” he added.
Rather than relying on publicity stunts or controversy to generate attention, the singer said he prefers his music to carry the weight of his career.
His approach has kept his public persona largely centred on his releases and artistic work, while he maintains a clear boundary around his personal life.
Fireboy, who rose to prominence with YBNL Nation, has released several successful projects and songs, including Peru, Vibration and Bandana, and is currently preparing for the release of his forthcoming album, Zuko.
