Qatar midfielder Assim Madibo has been suspended for five matches following a dangerous tackle on Ismael Kone during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The challenge left the Canadian midfielder with fractures to both the tibia and fibula in his left leg, forcing him to undergo immediate surgery in Vancouver. Kone, who plays for Italian club Sassuolo, was injured during Qatar’s 6-0 defeat last Thursday, a match in which Madibo was sent off with a red card.
FIFA’s disciplinary panel has now imposed a five-game suspension on Madibo for serious foul play, although he retains the right to appeal the ruling.
Madibo has since visited the injured 24-year-old in hospital following the incident.
