FG to flag off Cross River section of coastal highway April 14

The Federal Government is set to officially launch the construction of the Cross River section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway on April 14. This section, referred to as Section B3, is a key part of the coastal highway project.

Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, shared this information during a stakeholders’ engagement on Section Two of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project in Lagos on Sunday. “We are going to Cross River on the 14th to flag off construction, and by the 15th, we will also be in Akwa Ibom to flag it off,” Umahi said.

He also highlighted the challenging terrain, noting that the 65km stretch is particularly difficult, which totals 130km when considering both directions.

Regarding another major project, the Sokoto-Badagry Highway, the minister mentioned that one section in Sokoto spans 120km. “The third section of the Sokoto-Badagry project will begin from Badagry, but we are facing some challenges, including crossing rivers that are up to three kilometers wide, which will incur significant costs,” he added.

Umahi explained that four potential solutions have been proposed, and he will discuss them with the president to decide the best approach.

He assured that once discussions are concluded and a decision is made, procurement for the project will begin, followed by construction.
