Unai Emery has disclosed the message he delivered to his Aston Villa players before their emphatic 3-0 victory over SC Freiburg in Wednesday’s Europa League final in Turkey.
Goals from Youri Tielemans, Emiliano Buendia and Morgan Rogers secured the title for the Premier League side against their Bundesliga opponents.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, Emery said determination and commitment were central to his pre-match instructions.
“We played in a very serious way this year, so focused, and of course, the players – they showed their desire,” Emery said.
“I told them [my players]: ‘We need desire in this competition and show it on the field. You are the protagonists.’ And they did it,” he said.
