‘Ekiti Deserves Light’: Kunle Afod Seeks Governor’s Intervention Over 3-Year Blackout

Nollywood actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod has appealed to Ekiti State Governor Abiodun Oyebanji to intervene in a prolonged electricity blackout affecting four communities in the state.

Afod made the appeal in an open letter published on his Facebook page, drawing attention to the situation in Iroko, Oke Oro, Ayegun and Temidire communities in the Irewolede/Ijero Local Government Area.

The actor said residents had reportedly been without electricity for about three years, with the prolonged outage affecting different aspects of daily life.

According to Afod, the lack of power has disrupted businesses, household activities and students’ studies, while also affecting the general well-being of residents.

He appealed to Governor Oyebanji to use his office to facilitate efforts towards restoring electricity to the affected communities.

Afod acknowledged what he described as the administration’s efforts to improve living conditions across Ekiti, but argued that residents in the affected communities should also feel the impact of government intervention.

“These communities have been without electricity for about three years, and the situation has continued to affect businesses, homes, students and the general well-being of the people,” he wrote.

The filmmaker stressed that residents of the four communities are also citizens of the state and should have access to basic public infrastructure.

He therefore called for urgent action to address the electricity situation.

Afod ended his appeal with a message directed at the governor and the affected communities: “Ekiti deserves light. Our communities deserve attention.”

The appeal comes amid longstanding concerns over electricity supply across parts of Nigeria, where prolonged outages continue to affect households and businesses.
