EFCC to Arraign 23 Over Alleged Internet Fraud at OOPL Hotel

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will on Friday, August 15, 2025, arraign 23 suspected internet fraudsters before Justice Deinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The suspects are among 93 individuals arrested during a pool party at a hotel within the precincts of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta.

According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, preliminary profiling revealed that almost all those arrested had been indicted for offences including impersonation, identity theft, and internet fraud.

The EFCC disclosed that the party was originally planned for two separate venues but was relocated to the OOPL hotel in a bid to evade possible arrest.

Intelligence reports indicated that the organisers, believing the venue would shield them from law enforcement, moved the event at the last minute.

“The former president’s facility was not the target of EFCC operations. The suspects were the targets and have since confessed to their involvement in internet crimes,” the statement clarified.

The commission added that the arraignment will be conducted in batches, with the remaining suspects expected to face trial shortly after.
