Digital innovation is being positioned as a key tool for formalising Nigeria’s informal sector, improving business trust and creating jobs.
The Senate and NITDA made the submission in Abuja at the unveiling of Sky ID, a Nigerian platform offering business communication, identity and verification services.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Housing and Urban Development, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, said the National Assembly would continue to support legislation that creates an enabling environment for technology-driven businesses and employment.
An Assistant Director at NITDA, Dr Ahmed Yusuf Tambuwal, said digital tools could help small businesses formalise their operations, improve efficiency and expand their customer base, giving them access to bigger opportunities.
Founder and CEO of IT Sky Solutions, Almustapha Liman, said Sky ID was developed to strengthen identity verification and accountability in business transactions.
He said reliable verification systems could improve confidence between businesses and their customers, while technology should go beyond communication to strengthen commercial relationships.
Liman added that the company’s operations and channel-partner network were contributing to job creation, with about 1,000 people employed through its operations in India.
He said the company also plans to expand its trust and verification model across Africa, allowing businesses and individuals to communicate and transact with greater confidence across borders.
