Danks says Ballon d’Or winner Kane is already focused on next target

Bayern Munich assistant coach Aaron Danks says Harry Kane is determined to maintain his usual standards following his maiden Ballon d’Or triumph, with his attention already shifting to upcoming matches.

The 33-year-old England captain received football’s top individual honour in his hometown of London on Monday evening, marking the first time he has won the award.

Danks, currently leading the team’s dugout duties while head coach Vincent Kompany recovers from a virus in hospital, said the achievement would not distract Kane from his professional commitments.

“I am really happy for him and proud of what he’s achieved. I know Harry and his full focus will now be on his next goal, his next performances, his next games,” Danks told reporters on Tuesday.

“He’ll be straight back into that professional, humble mindset that got him to this level.”

Despite collecting several individual scoring awards and finishing runner-up in the Premier League and Champions League with Tottenham, Kane had to wait until joining Bayern in 2023 to win his first major team trophies.

He has since secured two Bundesliga titles and the German Cup, while reaching the Champions League semi-finals in two of his three seasons with the Munich club.

Danks said Kane’s latest achievement reflected the recognition he had long deserved.

“I remember years ago when he was back home in England, and everybody spoke about him not winning trophies, but if you looked at his career and what he was achieving, he was having a fantastic career.

“He was taking the England team to European finals; he was taking Tottenham to Champions League finals.

“Maybe he wasn’t getting the recognition in terms of trophies that he deserved, but those things are coming now for him.”

Kane and the other Bayern representatives who attended Monday’s ceremony are expected back in Munich by lunchtime on Tuesday, ahead of Wednesday’s German Cup fixture against second-division side Magdeburg.

“They’re due back at lunchtime today. He’ll train, practice this afternoon and be available for tomorrow… Our full focus is on the game tomorrow,” Danks said.

Danks also disclosed that Kompany’s health was improving after he visited the manager in hospital. The Belgian was admitted on Friday after collapsing during a training session.
