Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has further eased the curfew in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun communities, located in Irepodun and Orolu Local Government Areas, reducing the 17-hour curfew to a 12-hour one, effective immediately.
A statement from the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, issued on Tuesday, explained that the decision to relax the curfew was made in light of the gradual restoration of peace in these communities, which had been severely impacted by land disputes in the previous month.
Governor Adeleke also took the opportunity to address the ongoing issue of communal clashes, urging the newly formed 100-member expanded peace committee to act swiftly in identifying the root causes of the violence. He emphasized that the committee’s primary goal should be to recommend long-term solutions that will bring lasting peace to the affected areas.
The governor’s office has reiterated its commitment to ensuring stability in the region, expressing confidence that the peace committee’s efforts will play a crucial role in preventing further conflicts. Adeleke further stated that the government will continue to monitor the situation closely and work with local leaders and security agencies to ensure the safety of residents.
Local authorities have assured that security personnel will remain vigilant during the 12-hour curfew period to ensure peace is maintained, while also supporting ongoing dialogue between community leaders to address underlying tensions. The governor has also pledged that the government will provide necessary resources and support to communities working toward reconciliation.
Residents in the affected areas have expressed cautious optimism, hoping that the curfew relaxation, coupled with the peace initiatives, will lead to a more stable and peaceful environment moving forward.
